The Execution of a Young Biafran Boy
During the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), a young Biafran boy was captured by Nigerian soldiers. According to the footage, the boy was questioned by members of the military who suspected him of being a Biafran soldier.
When asked whether he was a combatant, the boy repeatedly denied being a soldier. His hands were tied with rope as the interrogation continued. He pleaded with the soldiers, insisting that he was not a fighter. In an attempt to save his life, he told them that he could lead them to the location of Biafran soldiers.
The soldiers reportedly assured him that he would not be harmed if he cooperated. Throughout the exchange, a man behind the camera—whose accent appears British—can be heard questioning the boy and documenting the events as they unfolded.
Despite the assurances given to him, the situation took a tragic turn. The soldiers later changed their decision. The boy was restrained, with both his hands and legs tied. He continued to plead for his life, but his appeals were ignored.
Moments later, he was executed by gunfire. After the shooting, his body was dragged to the side of the road.
The footage remains one of the most disturbing visual records associated with the Nigerian Civil War, raising enduring questions about the treatment of civilians, the conduct of armed forces during wartime, and the human cost of conflict.
